PLANNED PROTEST: WIKE PLEADS FOR PATIENCE, SAYING “HUNGER WILL REDUCE SOON”

The times call for diplomatic engagement in matters of state administration and development. That is why otherwise tough talking leaders now adopt the approach of preachers and prophets. Mr. Nyesom Wike, the fiery minister of the federal capital territory, FCT must have surprised his audience on Thursday when he practically begged them to shun the planned #endbadgovernance protest.  Wike made the appeal during the inspection of the ongoing construction of the 5-kilometre access road to Saburi 1 and 2 in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC). The minister, who though did not deny the current hardship in the country, said the 10-day protest scheduled to begin on August 1st, is “politically motivated”.

He assured the people that President Bola Tinubu was not impervious to the plight of the people in the country. While saying that the government was working hard, through reforms and policies, to ameliorate the situation, the minister said the hardship is a temporary phase in national development.

“The government, led by President Bola Tinubu, is acutely aware of the challenges and is working diligently to address them,” Wike stated. He continued, “Those asking you to protest are lying to you. It is not for the interest of Nigeria and it is not for your interest. Don’t be angry and don’t join the protest, because protest will not solve the problem.” He urged residents to remain patient as the government implements solutions to the issues at hand: “I know that hunger makes people lose patience. Please be patient. That is all I am asking. This hunger will be reduced very soon.
