The Kogi state government has announced the creation of a Ministry of Livestock Development in the state. The establishment of the ministry, according to a statement by the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, Dr. Folashade Ayoade, in Lokoja, was aimed at improving livestock management in the state in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu. The move follows a call from the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) Kogi Chapter last year, advocating for the creation of the ministry.
According to the SSG, who represented Governor Usman Ododo, the new ministry would address key livestock issues and promote sustainable growth within Kogi’s agricultural sector. “The ministry is expected to enhance productivity, create economic opportunities for farmers, and provide support for livestock stakeholders,” she explained.
Recall that in December 2024, during the launch of the Private Veterinary Practice (PVP) programme, the Chairman of the NVMA Kogi Chapter, Dr. Tolu Omotugba, urged Governor Ododo to appoint a qualified Veterinarian as Commissioner to lead the new ministry.
