YOBE LEGISLATURE CALLS FOR MORE EARTH DAMS FOR FLOOD CONTROL AND IRRIGATION

The Yobe State House of Assembly has called for the construction of more earth dams to utilize the abundant rainwater for irrigation farming activities. The house harped on the benefits of constructing earth dams, saying it will benefit the irrigation activities of farmers and reduce the hardship being experienced as a result of flood that destroyed many farmlands and properties worth millions of naira. The House made the call in a motion of urgent public importance moved by members representing Bade West and Geidam central Hon. Bukar Mustapha and Hon. Sanda Kara Bade, respectively, as well as other members of the House.

The lawmakers also received a report of its standing committee on works on the first and second quarter 2024 budget performance of the ministry of works and its agencies. Presenting the report, the chairman of the committee, Hon. Adamu Dala Dogo said the committee had paid oversight visits to sites for the ongoing construction and rehabilitation of roads, as well as drainages at various locations to ensure quality projects are executed at all levels.

Dogo said the committee has tasked the state ministry of works to direct all the contractors that have completed their projects to ensure they rehabilitate some potholes being observed on the roads before payment of their retentionfees.
