WORLD FOOD DAY: ABIA COMMITTED TO FOPD SECURITY 

The Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti has joined the global community in commemorating the 2025 World Food Day with the theme: “Hand in Hand for Better Food and Better Future.”

The event, held at the International Conference Center, Umuahia, was a celebration of food security, agricultural innovation, and the resilience of farmers.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Kenneth Kalu, the Governor reiterated his administration’s strong commitment to the transformation of the agricultural sector.

He emphasized that Abia State is richly blessed with agricultural potential and called on farmers to be strategic partners in turning the state into Nigeria’s food basket.

He praised the dedication and resilience of farmers across the state who continue to drive agricultural productivity.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Cliff Abgaeze, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to ensuring food availability and affordability for every household in Abia.

He noted that the theme of this year’s celebration underscores the importance of sustainable consumption and production. Dr. Abgaeze also highlighted the significant milestones achieved under Governor Alex Otti’s administration, including the development of a comprehensive farmers database and the development of technology to enhance agricultural practices.

Delivering a goodwill message, the representative of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food security, Mr. MBA Chibuzor, commended the state government for its impactful agricultural initiatives and pledged continued collaboration with the federal ministry.

In her vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Adanma Ijeoma Aguwa expressed gratitude to the Executive Governor, stakeholders and participants for their contributions to the success of the event.

Highlight of the event was the inspection of diverse agricultural products exhibited by farmers from across the state. The celebration was attended by top government officials, development partners and farmers.
