The Nigerian Women in Agricultural Business, NIWAB, a cooperative body of women farmers in the country, has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the Bayelsa State government in efforts to improve agricultural practices in the state. This was made known by the State President of NIWAB, Mrs. Ebimotimi Leghemo. She was speaking during a courtesy visit to the deputy governor of the state, Senator Lawrence Ewhhrudjakpo at the Government House in Yenagoa.
Mrs. Leghemo who informed the deputy governor that over 15,000 Bayelsan women had registered with her organisation, said NIWAB was willing to work with the state government to drive agricultural growth. She, therefore, asked for support for her organisation to achieve the goal of encouraging women farmers to augment the effort of the Nigerian government to improve food security and boost the economy through agriculture.
Welcoming the visitors, Senator Ewhrudjakpo commended NIWAB for their initiative to drive agricultural revolution and announced that the government was willing to partner with serious-minded agricultural cooperatives.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo stressed that Bayelsa’s industrialisation relies heavily on agriculture, urging stakeholders to explore areas where they have a comparative advantage to achieve food security. He also highlighted the importance of agriculture in the state’s ASSURED Prosperity Agenda.
The Bayelsa Deputy Governor also emphasised the crucial role of agriculture in Nigeria’s industrialisation. He noted that efficient and sufficient agricultural production is essential for food security and a gateway to industrialisation. Senator Ewhrudjakpo stated further that “the key to getting Bayelsa industrialised lies in agriculture”.
Beyond the state, agriculture still holds the aces, as according to him, by prioritising agriculture, Nigeria can accelerate its industrialisation and achieve food security.
