Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ), a non-profit
organisation has distributed food palliative to over 500 women in Odogbolu Local
Government Area, Ogun State
The NGO known for programmes that inspire, empower and advocate for a greater
representation of women in leadership positions in the public and private sector
gave out packages of foodstuffs to the underprivileged in the area.
The distribution packages had foodstuffs comprising rice, beans, garri, and tomato
paste, among others. Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, wife of Governor Dapo Abiodun
who witnessed the event also supported each of the beneficiaries with cash gifts.
Abiodun said the intervention by WIMBIZ was appreciated because of its capacity
to complement the government’s efforts to make life easier for the people.
She said, “The Sustainable Development Goals emphasise the importance of
addressing poverty and food security, highlighting the need for interventions that
go beyond government efforts.
“Despite the best intentions of the government, there is often a gap that needs to be
filled by initiatives like WIMBIZ Cares Distribution.
“When we began our work in Ogun State, through Ajose Foundation, we aimed to
reach vulnerable groups and intervene where we could.
“We have worked with widows, given out micro-grants, extended credit to SMEs
through corporate sector partners and started a highly successful mobile money
scheme with MTN. All these initiatives were private sector driven.
“I am particularly excited about the potential of programmes like WIMBIZ Cares
Distribution to expand and touch more lives sustainably, creating a ripple effect of
empowerment and progress.”
Mrs. Adeola Azeez, Co-founder of WIMBIZ said the organisation was established
22 years ago to address the gaps and issues women were facing in business,
management and public service.
She said, “We realised that there was under and low representation of women in
management, business and public service. So, we came together, then it was a
group of 12 women and one man to address this.
“We want to use the power of mentoring and advocacy to bring to the
consciousness of those in power, in management, to ensure that they begin to
realise that they should develop a pipeline of women who will also grow, either
with the institution or they are trained and equipped in public service and other
areas that will elevate the women.”
