WHEN ADEBOYE MINISTERED ON CHILDREN’S DAY

The target was to fill the mouths and souls of thousands of people who went out to celebrate on Children’s Day. And he met scores of them at Ikeja, the capital of Lagos state. It was an unusual ground for soul winning but Leke Adeboye, son of Enoch Adejare Adeboye, general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, reached out to over 5,000 people sharing the word of God with them and giving them food. The latter part was a fulfilment of the objective to support the vulnerable people in the society.

Adeboye junior, a Lead Pastor of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, The Bridge (Living Seed) on Sunday, May 27, was at the  Ikeja City Mall Lagos and provided meals, clothing, and free medical checkups for over 5,000 people in a crusade titled “Jesus in the Park”.

At the outdoor event, more than 5,000 individuals gathered to listen to sermons and dance to exhilarating praise songs led by gospel artists such as Pastor Kunle Ajayi, Bidemi Olaoba, Beejay Sax, Uche Okereke, Blessing Lopez, and others. The beneficiaries received complimentary medical checkups, including dental and eye examinations, as well as access to makeover stands for hair and makeup services, and free eyeglasses. Additionally, free food, beverages, clothing, and other gifts were distributed to the attendees.

Pastor Adeboye while speaking on the programme ‘Jesus in the Park,’ said that it was God that gave the parish an idea, which they didn’t think of. He also advised participants on how to scale the challenges of the hard times.

He said, “People are graduating in this same economy, and people are earning significant amounts now and then. They don’t have two heads; they only have one head connected to heaven. I encourage people to learn new skills. There are many opportunities available online, such as online marketing. We can’t solely rely on traditional income sources anymore. Use the advantages provided by information and technology for your benefit.”

Adeboye explained further the objective of the crusade, “Every single time, Jesus would share His message, heal the people, and feed them. So, we decided to share a message with the people, pray with them, and provide free medical checkups for everything from eyes and mouths to eyeglasses. We will also feed them at the end. As of 10 am, we had about 3,000 people registered, and we are making provisions for at least 5,000 people. We are trying to reach the same level Jesus did, and that is one of the reasons we are out here today. When we get to heaven, God will ask us questions,”

He would not arrogate to himself and those of his minister colleagues the wisdom to organise the programme. Rather he said, “The first thing is that it was God who gave us the idea; we didn’t even think of it on our own. The Bible says that no wisdom is given to man except the wisdom from above. The goal is to move the church community outside its four walls and preach the gospel to the world. The best places to reach people on a Sunday are supermarkets, malls, and shopping centres.”
