As the world marks International Workers’ Day, the Japanese Tobacco International, JTI Nigeria says its objective is to be a certified employer of choice every year in its 60 locations. This it promises to achieve through screwd talent management, rewards for innovative and good service as well as empowerment. This objective is in tandem with the policy of offering a long lasting career that inspires prospects even as it promotes gender equality in all sectors of its operation.
To make that possible it had set up a platform known as TogetHER, which is an Employee Resource Group, ERG designed to foster women empowerment and equal opportunities.
It is, therefore, not surprising that, JTI Nigeria, a member of the JTI Worldwide, which has a presence in over 130 countries is known for a first class treatment of workers for which it has won awards including the ‘Top Global Employer’ award for 10 consecutive years. It also has in its kitty the regional certification in Europe, Africa, Asia Pacific, North America and the Middle East.
Thomas Adams, General Manager of JTI Nigeria says the company takes delight in improving employees’ well-being “supporting greater diversity and inclusion” in all its operational environment and gives employees equal opportunities to develop, career wise.
He, however, said that notwithstanding the fact that JPI Nigeria is relatively young, it is already at the forefront of the tobacco industry in Nigeria. According to Adams, personnel of the company are at the core of that mission. This, he said, is responsible for the certification of the company as a “Great Place to Work”.
Therefore, its commitment to the welfare of workers and their progress aligns with the theme of this year’s International Workers’ Day, “Social Justice and Decent Work for All”, reinforcing the pledge by the JTI to continue to create a working environment that is conducive for brilliant people to showcase their creativity and nurture a culture of growth and productivity.
