Mrs. Folake Fasan ,is a vegetables seller, she sells all types of vegetables, around Aro Lambo, Motogun Road, Oke Aro ,Ogun State,She has being into this trade for more than five years now, yet she is enjoying every bit of it. Fasan who hails from Ondo town in Ondo State, took to vegetable farming after the demise of her husband. She shared her experience with our correspondent, Idowu Michael.
When did you start this Trade?
This year will make it a bit over five years.
What were you doing before then?
I was a labour hand at water corporation farm settlement,Oke Aro, for 8 years.
Labour hand,why?
When we moved to Lagos, I had to support my husband, in order to augument our income, the only certificate I had was primary School Leaving Certificate,and that was the only thing that came readily for me.
Was the salary okay then?
Not at all, but then,it was just to contribute to the common purse. l was paid Six thousand NAIRA only. However small, that was what I could get around then. Since,I am from a background that knows how to farm, I applied myself.
How many years did you spend with your employer on the farm?
I served him for eight good years,and when my husband died, I decided to leave the place.
Are you saying, the death of your husband led you to trade in vegetables?
Yes, when he died, I didn’t want to go back to water corporation farm settlement, since some of my friends and customers had hinted me earlier about vegetables business,I had to consider that line.

Though, they told me it may not bring much,but then,I won’t lack, and more so,I have my children to take care.
Was there any difference from it and the hand works?
Yes, a great different, nobody supervises me now. I do that myself and to God be the glory, things are better.
How do you relate with your customers?
No problem with them Sir, they ask for what they need, I give it to them and they pay, nothing more,they don’t even owe me. I don’t encourage credit either and when I want to give out freely, I do that.
How do you source for your vegetables?
Like I told you earlier,I have my customers,who are vegetable farmers, I go as far as Orudu, that’s Matogun area, water corporation farm settlement, Oke Aro and Gideon, all these places, are in Ogun State.
