SOKOTO STATE TO PROVIDE EQUIPMENT FOR THE SECURITY FORCES IN THE STATE AND SUBSIDISED GOODS FOR CIVIL SERVANTS

The Sokoto State Executive Council has approved the procurement of security equipment including Armoured Personnel Carriers aimed at strengthening security in the eastern part of the state.

The state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Sambo Bello Danchadi, disclosed this to newsmen after the first council meeting of 2025 at the Government House.

The approved apparatus includes high-tech vehicles such as bulletproof Toyota Hilux trucks and armoured personnel carriers, designed to support security agencies in their fight against insurgency and banditry.

The bulletproof Toyota Hilux features advanced armour protection that can withstand high-powered rifle rounds and explosive threats.

Other issues discussed during the council meeting included the drafting of laws that will impact the lives of residents in the state.

According to Danchadi , these include the Sokoto State Electricity Market and Electricity Regulatory Agency Law, the Information and Communication Development Agency Law, and the Regulatory Framework for Scrap Dealing, Salvage, Auto-Cycling, and Scavenging.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Muhammad Zayyana, said the council had approved several religious-related projects, including the renovation of Qur’anic schools and the Jumaat Mosque.

“As you may be aware, religious affairs are part of the 9-point agenda of His Excellency. The people of Sokoto State and beyond are aware of his efforts in promoting religious affairs in the state. Even today, at the council, we deliberated on several projects related to religious affairs,” he said.

Other projects discussed included the allocation of over seven hundred million naira for the purchase of goods, which will be sold to civil servants in the state at a subsidized rate.

He said Civil servants will be registered and issued special cards to make purchases at designated areas where the shops are located.

The council also approved the purchase of nine ultrasound machines for selected general hospitals in various Local Government Areas including Tambuwal, Bodinga, Kebbe, Illela, Gwadawa, Isa, Tangaza, Binji, and WcWc hospitals in the Sokoto metropolis.

Speaking further, the Commissioner for Land and Housing, Nasiru Aliyu Dantsoho, stated that in addition to these projects, the state government has also agreed to renovate the southern and eastern bypasses in the state, which are both federal roads.

“The federal government insists that the state government must align with the general standard of federal roads. In this regard, the state government has committed to ensuring compliance,” he said.

Dantsoho also noted that the government has approved the construction of a pedestrian bridge along Bodinga Road.
