Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has promised to provide support to the Cassava Processing Factory in Oyigbo Local Government Area to enable it build two more production lines and increase its output to meet demands of the market. The governor made the promise when he visited the factory to ascertain the state of facilities there on Thursday. The plant was inaugurated in 2021 with a support of N5 billion from the Central Bank of Nigeria to process Cassava and make several products from it for both domestic and international markets.
The governor said the management of the firm had approached him for more funds to enable it expand its production lines to meet market demands. But he insisted he needed to visit to see what had been done to justify the initial investment in the plant. The governor said, “I got a request from the people who are managing the cassava processing plant that we need to extend our support for them to complete two production lines.
“That will give them a standard that they can start to supply in earnest to a lot of distributors who need the product from this plant. And I felt it would be proper for me to see what we have already invested, the stage they are, so that it will encourage us to give support.”
Governor Fubara also explained that the visit was to see how productive the existing production line was. According to him, “From what I have seen here today, it is really impressive. I can assure them that we are going to give the financial support to ensure that the production lines are all completed. This is to encourage them to go into full supply of the product with international standard to anywhere in the world”.
