As his contribution to efforts at fighting food insecurity in Nigeria, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North senatorial district has facilitated training programme for over 100 farmers from his constituency. The beneficiaries were trained on modern agricultural practices. The training, organized in partnership with the Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR) and Sam Sedi Nigeria Limited, aimed to enhance agricultural output in the region.
The beneficiaries received training on best farming practices for cassava, maize, and oil palm cultivation, as well as proper fertilizer and chemical application. After the training, the farmers were also empowered, as each of them was given 30 oil palm seedlings, two bags of maize, a bag of fertilizer, 10 bundles of cassava stems, and chemicals to boost productivity.
NIFOR’s Executive Director, represented by Dr. Esohe Ilori, emphasised the importance of equipping farmers with essential tools and knowledge to achieve food security, generate employment, and promote long-term economic growth. Senator Oshiomhole, represented by his Legislative Aide, Mr. Adams Mumin, stated that the training program was designed to uplift smallholder farmers and promote sustainable farming techniques.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and Senator Oshiomhole, describing the support as timely and greatly beneficial. The initiative aims to increase productivity, strengthen resilience, and adopt sustainable farming practices, marking the beginning of a stronger and more sustainable agricultural sector in the region.
