The Federal Government has approved an irrigation project for Iperu, a community in Ogun state to enable year-round farming and ensure food security. The project, which includes a dam and waterworks, will assist farmers in cultivating crops throughout the year, guaranteeing a regular supply of affordable food items and providing potable water to the people.
The proposed Iperu Mini Stadium project has also received federal approval, with plans already in motion to commence construction alongside the irrigation project was revealed by the Managing Director of the Ogun/Osun River Basin Development Authority, Deji Ashiru, during a courtesy visit to the Alaperu of Iperu, Oba Adeleke Adelekan Idowu-Basibo, at his palace in Iperu recently.
Ashiru, who led members of the management team to Iperu, informed the monarch that funds for the immediate execution of the projects had been provided in the 2024 budget, assuring that both projects would be completed within six months.
Oba Idowu-Basibo, in a release signed by the Liaison Officer and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Chairman of the Iperu Mini Stadium Committee, Tope Oyekan, expressed his gratitude to the board and management of the Ogun Oshun River Basin Development Authority for situating the projects in Iperu. He also extended his appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council for their approval.
Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of the Iperu Remo Mini Stadium Project Committee, Alhaji Denny Ibrahim Oladipupo, also expressed gratitude to Ashiru and his team for the visit, which he described as timely.
He highlighted the committee’s efforts towards delivering a functional mini stadium and recreation center that will serve as the venue for the 2025 and subsequent Ojude Oba celebrations.
The Managing Director and his team were later taken to the project sites at Atenda and the Ibu (Eri) River for an on-site assessment.
It is worth recalling that the Ogun Oshun River Basin Development Authority is a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and one of 12 River Basin Development Authorities. It is tasked with the development and management of surface and groundwater resources, provision of safe and adequate water for domestic, industrial, flood control, and agricultural purposes, to enhance the quality of life and promote the socioeconomic development of the country.
