MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE WANTS TO USE DATA TO IMPROVE GROWTH IN THE SECTOR

The Ministry of Agriculture Food and Security will no longer rely on guess work to plan and execute policies of government in the sector. This is because it has decided to mine data to aide its exercise going forward.

This was made known by the minister in charge of the ministry, SenatyAbubakar Kyari. He said his ministry has entered I to a partnership with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to collate and manage agricultural data.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) recently launched the National Agricultural Sample Census (NASC), a scheme aimed at tackling the dearth of data hindering local and foreign growth and investment in the agricultural sector.

In a post on his X, formerly Twitter, account Kyari hinted at the partnership after the Director General of the NIMC Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote paid a visit to the ministry headquarters in Abuja.

He said, “At my office. My brother, the Honourable Minister of state @sabialiyu_ and the Permanent Secretary were also in attendance.

“We discussed partnering to improve how we manage agricultural data, make it easier to verify farmers’ identities, and help farmers access more agricultural services and resources.

“I am excited and appreciate NIMC’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector of our dear nation through the integration of identity management systems. This will ensure transparency and efficiency of our services”.
