MINISTER ADVOCATES PROPER LIVESTOCK CARE AND REPLICATION OF MINISTRY BY SOME STATES

The Minister of Livestock Development, Di Maiha, has called for stringent regulations on milk collection mechanisms and value chain distribution.

Maiha, speaking at the 2024 edition of the Continuing Education Programme for Veterinary Professionals in Abuja, emphasised that the vaccination of cattle should be prioritised to enhance the healthy consumption of dairy products.

The event, themed “Veterinarians as Policy Advocates: Giving Voice to Animals,” had Maiha assuring of the federal government’s commitment to expeditiously address issues of livestock migration through the Ministry of Livestock Development.

He said, “The first National Council on Livestock Development will have representations from all state ministries for livestock development.

“The aim is to standardise domestic production of livestock and related products in order to access the global livestock markets.”

Maiha further stated that animal health, food and water consumption, as well as breed improvement, could only be enforced through the establishment of ministries for livestock development in some states of the federation.
