The Mushin Fresh Food Agro-Hub established by the Lagos State Government in 2023 has generated N2.5bn in transactions in 12 months.
The 6,400 square metre site in Idi-Oro, facilitated by 348 vendors attracted 75,000 visitors in trading activities during the 81 market days held for commercial transactions.
The food hub was established to reduce farmers’ reliance on middlemen, ensure fair pricing, reduce post-harvest losses and revolutionise food logistics and distribution within the state.
Speaking at the first anniversary, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food System, Ms Abisola Olusanya, said the agro-Hub wasn’t limited to just a market, but a catalyst for change in food distribution management in Lagos.
She said, “The hub has boosted the livelihoods of vendors and market women, improved food accessibility for Lagosians through fair and affordable pricing, created job opportunities, and contributed to the economic growth of the community.
“The Mushin Fresh Food Agro-Hub stands as a model of innovation and sustainability, not only for Lagos but for Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
“These projects aim to streamline food supply chains, enhance food security, and create economic opportunities for Lagos’ growing population.
“The fresh food agro-hub is proof that innovative, community-focused initiatives can reshape economies, improve livelihoods, and create a more secure and prosperous future for everyone involved”.
She further highlighted the ongoing construction of the Lagos Logistics Hub in Epe and additional construction of fresh food agro-hubs under strategic locations across the state, as part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, to harness food availability and affordability.
