By the time Vice President kashim Shettima arrives Katsina state tomorrow, Monday October 20,2025 one cheering news report he would be welcome with is the decision of Governor Dikko Radda administration to set up a specialised Radio station. The radio station, which will be dedicated to agriculture, will be known as FARMERS’ RADIO.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Livestock in the state, Prof. Ahmed Bakori, announced this in Katsina on Friday. According to him, it is designed to address the administration of agriculture. He was addressing a press conference in preparation for the visit the Vice President Shettima to the state.
The Radio station will not be the only initiative that will convince the vice president of the commitment of the state government to large food production, the administration will also present another project for the vice president to commission, to which the Radio will more or less complement.
It is the newly established e-centre where farmers can get quick responses.
So, while in the state, the e-centre will be another project that the vice president will inaugurate.
Bakori explained that the decision of the government to set up the radio station was informed by the need to ease communication with farmers.
He, therefore, said that the radio station would offer on-demand support and advice, covering topics from production management to marketing and pest control.
Professor Bakori said the initiative is part of a holistic strategy to improve agriculture in Katsina, which also includes providing access to modern equipment and training programmes.
He assured that by the time it becomes operational, the large agricultural base of the state would be greatly enhanced, the small holder farmers who have a high degree of Radio audience would positively impacted. The radio station will be an added avenue to reach out to the farming population in the state.
Bakori said, “With this development, the farmers would have three sources of information, which include the normal extension workers, and the new Katsina Sustainable Platform for Agriculture (KASPA).”
The additional advantages the radio will give to the farmers is that they would
have the opportunity to communicate, receive additional training ask questions, so that an expert would be able to respond to them.
The Commissioner said that way the management aspect of agriculture would have been taken care of , and that he said, would help farmers to make more profit, and therefore take agriculture to the needed level.
But those are not the only projects that Shettima would inaugurate during his visit. The state commissioner for Works, Housing and Transportation, Alhaji Sani Magaji-Ingawa, said at the event that Shettima would also inaugurate a 3.3 kilometer road project within the metropolis.
According to him, the road, which started from the Katsina central Mosque, and ended at the WTC roundabout, was constructed at the cost of N1.9 billion.
“The project is provided with a solar-powered street light, and drainage system, reflects the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development that promotes safety, efficiency and environmental sustainability,” he said.
A’isha Aminu, the Director-General of the state’s Enterprises Development Agency (KASEDA), also revealed that during the visit, Shettima would declare open the 9th expanded national Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Clinic. (NAN)
