The Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Umaru Radda, paid a solidarity visit to Maiduguri, Borno State’s capital, early Wednesday where he expressed condolences and support for victims of recent devastating floods.
The floods have severely impacted social and economic activities in the state, with over 400,000 people displaced.
During the visit, Governor Radda presented a cheque of ₦100 million to Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, as a support from the people of Katsina State to those affected.
He said, “This is one of the most serious disasters that has affected our country, and Borno in particular. We hope Almighty Allah will provide support, and we pray that we will not witness another such incident in any part of our country.”
The recent floods, caused by the collapse of Alau Dam, devastated Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State. The state government has since received significant support, including donations totalling over N14.7 billion from various sources, both from different states and International bodies sympathy.
Governor Zulum, in his response, expressed gratitude to Governor Radda and the people of Katsina State for their timely assistance. “This act of kindness in our time of need exemplifies the unity and brotherhood that exists among Nigerians. Your support will significantly aid our recovery efforts and bring relief to those affected by the floods,” he stated.
Governor Radda was accompanied by the Emir of Daura, His Royal Highness Alhaji Umar Faruq Umar; Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura; and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Jabiru Tsauri, among others.
Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmad, also donated ₦50 million to the Maiduguri flood victims on Tuesday, September 17.
