KANO STATE OUTLINES HOW TO SPEND OVER N16 BILLION ALLOCATION TO AGRICULTURE SECTOR 

The Kano State Government has allocated N16.6 billion to the agricultural sector in this year’s budget. According to the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Musa Shanono, this investment aims to achieve food security and increase citizens’ income levels.

The budget breakdown reveals a significant focus on agricultural development. Shanono explained that “these investments demonstrate the State Government’s commitment to developing its agricultural sector, creating opportunities for farmers and herders, and ensuring food security for its citizens.”

Key allocations include:

N3 billion for constructing the 3.1 billion liters Dansoshiya Dam and providing flowing channels.

N5.6 billion for the Kano State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority and Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project Intervention Programme (KSADP) to enhance agricultural productivity and competitiveness.

₦815 million for purchasing demonstration seeds, fertilisers, and agrochemicals to support farmers.

₦571 million for constructing onion beds in the three senatorial districts.

N391 million for programmes targeting women in agriculture under the Value Chain Development.

N167 million for procuring veterinary clinics and essential materials.

N162 million for establishing a pasture museum at Kadawa to support KSADP.

These strategic investments are expected to drive growth and development in Kano’s agricultural sector.
