In a major boost to its agricultural sector, Imo State has secured approval for the Onitsha-Port Harcourt Corridor Market, a project aimed at enhancing agri-food trade and improving rural access in the region. This significant achievement was announced during a workshop on agri-food market development study under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), sponsored by the French Development Agency (AFD).
The market is expected to serve as a hub for agricultural trade, connecting farmers, traders, and consumers across the South-East and South-South regions. It aims to enhance agri-food trade, improve rural access, and stimulate economic growth in the region.
The Imo State delegation, led by Honourable Commissioner for Rural Development and Economic Empowerment, Sir Ifeanyi D. Oruh JP, included key stakeholders and commissioners from various ministries. They expressed gratitude to the RAAMP Coordinator and AFD Representative for their support and emphasised the importance of the project to Imo State’s economic transformation.
This approval is a significant step towards achieving food security, reducing post-harvest losses, and enhancing Imo State’s position as a key player in Nigeria’s agricultural sector. The workshop also provided an opportunity for the Imo State delegation to share insights and collaborate with other states and stakeholders on best practices for agri-food market development.
