Pastor Samuel Akpan–Isong, General overseer, Champions for Christ Chapel Asaba, Delta State in Asaba distributed rice, bread, garri, cash and other foodstuffs worth millions of naira to a group of people. The beneficiaries include a 90-year-old woman, single mothers and other vulnerable people grappling with hunger.
Akpan–Isong during the exercise appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly, governors and spirited individuals to tackle food insecurity and other socioeconomic challenges in their bids to cushion the effects of hunger currently ravaging the nooks and crannies of the country.
He further chided the ruling class not to lock their gates against the poor, but to give, no matter how small, to people around them.
“When people are happy, you are happy too but when they are not happy, you share their pain”.
He echoed the obvious, just in case the ruling class is oblivious of it. He said, “There is hunger in the land today. I looked at the church members, and the surrounding neighbourhood and they are not accepted because most of them are not well-to-do, and therefore need the support of others to survive.
“What I have done is just to make sure people are happy. So, my actions are not politically motivated, because I’m not looking for political office, or looking for rewards from anyone.
“Jesus Christ had shown compassion, fed the people, particularly the poor and with the present economic challenges, people need support to stop their cries,” Akpan–Isong added.
