Mr. Onunkwo Obinna Ifeanyichukwu, a livestock farmer based in Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State, has voiced his concern about the rising prices of food items leading to widespread hunger in the country.
Speaking with Bushlink, he suggests that if the Federal Government subsidises the cost of feed machines, it could help alleviate the issue. As the CEO of Arubo Farms Nigeria Limited, Ifeanyichukwu believes that the high cost of feed machines is a major obstacle to increased productivity. He emphasises that farmers, especially those in the livestock sector, struggle to afford these machines, which are essential for production.
Ifeanyichukwu suggests that government intervention in the form of subsidies for feed machines, perhaps through a partial payment program, would greatly benefit fish farmers. By enabling them to produce their own feed. This, he said, would help reduce hunger significantly.
He further explains that the skyrocketing cost of feed over the past year has severely impacted businesses, making it difficult to determine selling prices. Anticipating another increase in feed prices by the end of the month, he emphasizes the urgency of addressing this issue.
By supporting farmers in acquiring feed machines, even if its for their own use, Ifeanyichukwu believes it would be a significant step forward. Fish farmers, for example, would have the ability to produce their own feed, ensuring a stable supply and reducing dependence on external sources.
