The Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, (FMAFS) Aliyu Abdullahi, has announced that the federal government is set to re-capitalise the Bank of Agriculture (BOA) to make food more accessible and affordable for Nigerians.
Abdullahi disclosed this when he received the Emir of Borgu, Barr. Mohammed Sani Haliru, and his entourage on a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja. He told the royal team, “We are reforming the Bank of Agriculture to serve Nigerians. We are recapitalising the Bank of Agriculture to make food accessible and affordable.”
He further emphasised the importance of continuous agricultural production to sustain food security.
The minister assured that efforts were underway to intensify the development of various cluster farms in the Borgu Kingdom, promising to continue representing the people with integrity.
In his remarks, the Emir expressed support for the minister, stating that the visit was to show solidarity and offer prayers for his success.
The monarch said, “We are here to show our support to the minister physically so that all of you working with him will know that he has our prayers.”
He commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing one of Borgu’s sons to the ministerial position, highlighting the agricultural potential of the kingdom.
“Borgu has the potential if well tapped, to feed the nation. That is why the Governor can boast that Niger State can feed the country, and Borgu constitutes a significant percentage of that land,” the Emir stated.
He urged the minister to prioritise agricultural development in the kingdom, stressing that supporting agriculture would help address economic challenges.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, FMAFS Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi, had expressed his honour in associating with the Emir and assured him of the ministry’s commitment to supporting the minister’s success.
“The management of the ministry is extremely competent to support your son to succeed. We have no business being here except to ensure his success,” Ogunbiyi said. He reiterated that the success of the ministers reflects on the ministry, expressing confidence that they would deliver on their mandate.
