FEDERAL, LAGOS GOVERNMENTS PARTNER ON FOOD SECURITY

The federal government has provided th Lagos state government the opportunity to take advantage of a partnership between them to boost efforts towards food security in the state. This came to th open recently when Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development presented  Federal Government’s proposal on the provision of machines that were useful in the processing of cassava into Garri flour to Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State at the Lagos House, Marina.
Kennedy-Ohanenye said the Federal Government’s drive in the agricultural sector aims to carry women along with about “30 per cent and 70 per cent representation for women and men”, respectively, stating that Federal Government had introduced similar partnerships in other states.
Mr. Sanwo-Olu at the meeting, promised to support the initiative, adding that the state had a large farm it operated to boost agriculture.
“We have a huge farm that we operate. We see the synergy in what you’re doing. The food security you want to achieve, we will help you in achieving it. We’re willing to derive the benefits from what the Federal Government is bringing to us.” The governor further assured the minister of the readiness of his administration to participate in any programme that benefits the people.
He said, “We are always ready to participate in initiatives that would bring development to the state and provide employment for residents.”
