COMMUNITY LEADER ADVISES NIGERIANS TO CULTIVATE HOUSEPLANTS FOR HEALTH AND BETTER ENVIRONMENT

Nigerians have been urged to adopt houseplants in their homes and communities to enhance air quality and humidity and improve environmental conditions. Chief James Nnadozie Uchegbuo, the President General of Ahuwa-Oboro Autonomous Community in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State said this during the National Houseplant Appreciation Day on January 10.

“Plants naturally consume carbon dioxide and release oxygen, making them essential for both rural and urban areas in Oboro, Ikwuano, Abia State, and across Nigeria,” said Uchegbuo who is an engineer. He also emphasised that houseplants play crucial roles in reducing air pollutants and improving indoor air quality. He, therefore, said that beautification of the environment is not the only thing that they can get from the plants, as according to him, the plants also release moisture into the air, thereby improving humidity levels which will in turn enhance the comfort of homes and facilitate breathing balance.
