AKWA IBOM GOVERNOR IMPLORES PEOPLE TO EMBRACE FARMING TO FIGHT POVERTY

In the face of the harsh economic realities in the country, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has advised economically challenged families to complement government food palliatives with farming. The Governor stated this at the distribution ceremony of foodstuff which included  rice, beans and garri to beneficiaries in 76 villages of Etim Ekpo local government area of Akwa Ibom State.

While emphasizing the importance of agriculture as a panacea to food shortage, Governor Eno assured reiterated the commitment of his administration to boos agriculture through the ‘ARISE Agenda’, which is composed of Supporting Farmers: Providing agricultural inputs, including free fertilizers and improved seedlings. Agricultural Acceleration: Implementing interventions to ensure rapid agricultural growth. Dr. Daniel Akpan, Chairman of the Bulk Purchase Agency, commended the governor’s commitment to the welfare of the poorest citizens. Ekpok Eshiet, Transition Committee Chairman of Etim Ekpo LG Council, also praised the administration’s efforts to alleviate extreme hunger.

Beneficiaries, including Mr. Nse Udo, a stroke victim from Ikot Ese village, expressed gratitude for the timely intervention. “I sincerely thank the governor for keeping his promise to support the people,” Nse said.

By promoting farming, the Akwa Ibom State government aims to empower households to achieve food security and improve their overall well-being. Governor Eno harped on the danger of relying solely on food palliatives is unrealistic, stating that embracing farming was the best solution to tackling food shortage and economic shortfall.
