ADAMAWA STATE TO SPEND N2 BILLION TO BOOST PRODUCTION IN AGRICULTURE

Farmers in Adamawa state have a reason to cheer. The much expected support from the government is on the way. This is because the State Government has earmarked ₦2 billion to the agricultural sector with which the government plans to provide farmers and youths with essential farm inputs. The objective is that the initiative will enhance food production, promote self-reliance, and empower local farmers.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, M.D Jattau, who made this known indicated that the government would support farmers with improved seedlings and tools, and provide training on climate-smart agriculture practices. The program would cover 300 hectares of land in each of the 21 local government areas, with 300 youths managing the farms.

Jattau noted that the initiative would increase crop yields, improve food security, and enhance the livelihoods of citizens. He attributed the current high prices of staple foods to the economic principle of demand and supply, stating that fewer buyers and excess suppliers have led to a decrease in demand and prices.

The government has already implemented the program in six local government areas and plans to expand it to other parts of the state. The commissioner emphasised that the program would contribute to the state’s economic growth and help curb hunger and food insecurity.
