FARMERS IN KOGI AND NASARAWA STATES GET FREE FERTILISER

Farmers in Kogi and Nasarawa states are in for a good time. Some of them will not have to brood over how to get fertiliser for the wet season. This is because the authorities are giving them free fertiliser for use on their farms. In Kogi state, the government distributed 103,200 bags of fertilisers worth ₦3.2 billion to 30,000 farmers across the state. The fertilisers, comprising 51,600 bags of Urea and 51,600 bags of NPK, were allocated to three clusters representing the state’s senatorial districts.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Timothy Ojomah, stated that the initiative aims to enhance productivity and support massive food production. The state government has also invested in training farmers and deploying extension workers to provide technical guidance.

The number of beneficiaries in Nasarawa state is much more than in Kogi. In Nasarawa 74, 800 farmers got free fertiliser. The initiative is a collaboration between Nasarawa State and the Federal Government. The initiative, which was launched across the state is aimed to increase crop yields and enhance food security.

Governor Abdullahi Sule emphasised the importance of this program, thanking President Bola Tinubu for his support. “We appreciate President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for this gesture of free fertiliser to the state,” he said.

The governor assured that his administration would ensure the fertilisers are distributed effectively and warned against any attempts to divert the commodities. He also pledged to improve security in the state to facilitate farming activities.
