A total number of one hundred youths and women have been trained and empowered in tomato and pepper production in Adamawa state. The programme, organised by the federal ministry of Agriculture and food security in conjunction with the National Horticulture Research Institute, NIHORT, trained the beneficiaries on different techniques in agriculture.
These include seed transplanting techniques, nursery and harvesting techniques, field establishment and management, control of pests and diseases, as well as tomato and pepper value addition. The training is aimed at building the capacity of youth and women on tomato and pepper production for creating wealth and generating means of sustainable livelihood.
Urging the participants to take the advantage of the training to acquire knowledge and skills, which will enable them to establish their own tomato and pepper farms, a NIHORT representaftive, Solomon Adamu commended the Federal Government for empowering the women and youths who would use the skills gained thereby increasing their self-sufficiency and boosting the security for the the state and nation at large.
